    What is Ponzu?

Ponzu is a Japanese citrus dressing and sauce used in several Japanese recipes. Generally, people use it as a dipping sauce for steamed dumplings, gyoza, and sashimi.

Furthermore, some people also use it to marinate steak, chicken, and pork. Besides this, it also works as a salad dressing.

The term "Ponzu" came from the Dutch word pons, which means a beverage prepared from fruit juices. This sauce contains rice vinegar, flakes of katsuobushi, mirin, and seaweed. These ingredients are cooked on medium heat and then cooled.

Nowadays, commercial Ponzu sauce comes in packaging with additional ingredients and preservatives.

    Nutritional Information for Ponzu

The 37g of commercial Ponzu gives you 29 calories, 602mg sodium and 6g of net carb. Most commercial ponzu sauce available in the market includes soy sauce, sodium benzoate, and yeast extracts.

Is Ponzu Keto Friendly? Or Can You Consume Ponzu on Keto?

No, Ponzu is not keto friendly. Per 37g, you get 6g of net carb. In such a small quantity, it has a significant amount of carbs.

Remember, you will need to use it in a large quantity for dressing or as a dipping sauce. Therefore, you will get carbs in high amounts. And because ponzu sauce is processed with preservatives, it is not ideal for a keto diet.
