I have heard about Quest Bars for some time now and I was just recently able to find them at a local GNC. They are raved about on so many blogs that I follow, I knew that I had to give them a try! This Quest bar review will be one of my many, as I would like to eventually try the entire product line!
Quest Bar Review Specifications
The Strawberry Cheesecake Quest bar comes brightly packaged in an attractive red wrapper with a plethora of very inviting phrases and words: gluten-free, high-fiber, no sugar or artificial sweeteners used, all natural, 20g of protein.
I really like the sounds of all of that.
This bar uses three different naturally derived sweeteners: Erythritol, Lo Han Guo and Stevia.
Nutritionally, each bar has: 160 calories, 5 grams of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, 2 NET carbohydrates, 2 grams of sugar, 6 grams of sugar alcohol and 20 grams of fiber.
Ingredients: Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate), Isomalto-Oligosaccharides* (100% Natural Prebiotic Fiber), Almonds, Water, Erythritol, Freeze Dried Strawberries, Natural Flavors, Lo Han Guo, Stevia.
Scent
The scent of this Strawberry Cheesecake Quest bar is out of this world. It is very natural and sweet smelling. Very reminiscent of the most perfectly picked strawberries at the peak of their season.
I wish I could smell this forever.
Taste
I really wanted this Quest bar to taste awesome, I really did. I am just not a fan.
There's a very faint strawberry taste that is almost completely masked by the gritty protein taste that is in all protein bars. With that being said, I can't really taste the "cheesecake" part of this bar at all.
It's not completely terrible. I'm not gagging like I have done in the past trying other bars. In all honesty, I think it's the strawberry scent/slight taste that is the only redeeming quality, taste wise.
Texture
I really like the texture of this bar a lot. Being gluten-free, I wasn't expecting that crunchy build-up that most protein bars provide, which is good. I absolutely hate that. Instead, the texture is kind of like a soft caramel candy. I quite like it!
Verdict
Not the worst thing I have ever tasted, but definitely not the best. I wouldn't actively purchase this bar again, but if someone gave it to me, I would eat it. Take that as you will!
I have read that heating some of the Quest bars up will improve the flavor. I can't imagine a warm Strawberry Cheesecake being too fantastic, though. Perhaps I should do half as-is and half heated in my review...
~ Final Rating: 3/10 ~
