    What Is Basil?

    Basil is a culinary herb from the mint family. And it is native to tropical regions from Central Africa to Southeast Asia.

    Basil is used in various cuisines around the world, most particularly in Italian cuisine. It is used to add a distinct flavor to food such as salads, pizza and pastas. And it actually is one of the main ingredients of pesto sauce.

    Nutritional Information For Basil

    For this post, we will be analyzing both fresh and dried basil's nutritional information.

    5g of fresh basil have 1.2 calories, no fat and 0.1g of total carbs. It has no net carbs because all of its total carbs come from 0.1g of dietary fiber.

    On the other hand, one teaspoon of dried basil has 1.6 calories, no fat and 0.3g of total carbs. It also has no net carbs, because like fresh basil, all of its carbs come from dietary fiber.

    So now, let's answer the question: "is basil keto friendly?"

    Is Basil Keto Friendly? Can You Use It While On Keto?

    Yes. Basil, whether fresh or dried, is keto friendly because it is low in carbs and has zero fat.
